Who protects and upholds the White Order?

If you were to ask anyone, they would answer the Holy Knights.

Holy Knights serve under the name of the Goddess, protecting the order and judging those who disturb the continent. In the process, they carry out their missions with their lives at stake.

This is why Holy Knights can be considered the beings who protect and uphold the order. Leading these Holy Knights is Gerard, the head of the Holy Knight Order. He was currently receiving a report in his office.

“Contact with Werther has been lost?”

In response to the head’s question, Riana, who was reporting, nodded her head. She was a Holy Knight and also served as the Vice Commander assisting the head.

The head’s expression brightened upon hearing that Werther Leo Bane, the Vice captain of the Holy Knight Order, had disappeared.

Werther Leo Bane was not originally a member of the order. He came from the noble Leo Bane family of the Kalen Empire, and joining the order was merely an option for him.

It was a bit inconceivable for someone like him, an outsider, to hold the position of Vice captain within the Holy Knight Order.

However, even though he came from a noble family, he needed to gain the favor of the Kalen Empire to some extent, and bestowing the position of Vice captain in the Holy Knight Order upon him served that purpose.

Of course, Werther had some competence, but Gerard didn’t like everything about him.

What is a Holy Knight? Many people still devote themselves to their training and strive to keep their hearts pure under the name of the Goddess.

Gerard raised his hand to interrupt Riana. It was well known that the order had dispatched only the best elite Holy Knights for this operation.

But, in fact, only half of that was true. Among the Holy Knights sent, only half of them were truly elite.

The Holy Knights assigned to Vice captain Werther were, as mentioned earlier, those who had become worthless.

Naturally, Werther, who had no interest in the order, wouldn’t have known who had been assigned to him. He hadn’t tried to find out.

And, as Riana had just mentioned, Gerard had devised a way to make this even more certain. It was through their equipment.

All the equipment given to the Holy Knights was of the highest quality, but it was still a product of human hands. Among them, there were pieces of equipment with flaws that were not of the highest quality.

Gerard had used his influence to acquire these flawed pieces of equipment. All he had to do was give them to Werther and the Holy Knights assigned to him. They couldn’t even detect what was wrong with their equipment.

Even if an inquiry were held within the order, the responsibility would mainly fall on Werther, the person in charge of the operation on site. In the end, Gerard had gained a lot from this incident.

First, the superiors would be shocked by the disappearance of the Holy Knights. In reality, they had fallen in the line of duty during the operation. As a result, the superiors would increase their vigilance and provide more support to the Holy Knights. This meant that Gerard’s authority as the head of the Holy Knight Order would increase.

Werther Leo Bane held the Demon Sword in his hand, the very sword he had desired for so long. It had taken him days of struggle, but finally, it was within his grasp.

Even though the Holy Knights he had led had perished, what did it matter now? With the Demon Sword in his possession, he would gain immense power. With that power, no being would be able to stand in his way.

Werther gazed at the Sword with desire-filled eyes as he slowly began to draw the Demon Sword. A sharp sensation coursed through his hand as he pulled it out. It was painful, but Werther persisted in pulling out the Sword. Finally, the Demon Sword was fully drawn.

“Ugh…!”

The pain he had felt in his hand began to spread through his arm and quickly throughout his entire body. He couldn’t help but let out a groan.

“I didn’t expect to obtain it so easily!”

Werther realized that the process was far more agonizing than he had ever imagined. When this was over, he would gain a power that transcended dimensions.

The pain continued to intensify, and soon, it became unbearable.

“Aaah!”

His entire body felt like it was being consumed by flames. The pain was so excruciating that he wished he could faint. He had reached the limits of what he could endure. Something was terribly wrong. In an instant, regret flooded his mind.

People didn’t just call it the Demon Sword for no reason.

“Please…”

Kill me.

The pain was so unbearable that Werther couldn’t even speak properly. All he could do was shed tears.

“Oh my, how are you feeling now?”

Someone spoke to Werther while he was in agony. Even in his torment, Werther struggled to turn his head to see who it was. Standing there was a woman with silver hair, who possessed an incredibly alluring appearance.

‘Monster…’

He could tell she wasn’t human from the large horn above her head.

“People are so simple, aren’t they? They’re willing to draw the Demon Sword without any hesitation just because I’ve charmed them a little.”

The monster said, but Werther paid no attention to her words. The intensity of the pain he was experiencing continued to increase.

“Ah…!”

Once again, a searing pain coursed through his body.

“Kwaaah!”

Perhaps his heart would stop due to the shock. In fact, that might be a better outcome. He desperately wanted to be freed from this ongoing torment. So, he prayed, though he couldn’t speak properly.

“Please…”

Kill me.

It was impossible to put his feelings into words, but he silently pleaded for her to end his suffering.

The woman in front of him reacted to his words.

“Alright, then think of those who made you like this.”

Even in his dreadful pain, Werther listened to her words. She was the only one who could save him, this monster, or whatever she was. He thought desperately.

Those who made him like this? It was obvious.

His own family that had cast him out.

Even if they had allowed him to compete fairly for the position of heir, he wouldn’t have held a grudge. Even if they hadn’t cast him out, he would have had no connection with the order and would not have faced this fate.

“Have you thought of everything?”

Werther nodded his head frantically. He had thought of everything and was now begging for his own death.

“Alright, from now on, I will save you.”

Werther closed his eyes. He was willing to endure this agony if it meant finding release from it. Celia looked at Werther with a sense of contempt, thinking of him as a foolish human.

Soon, she summoned another being, a figure named Death Knight.

“Death Knight, please.”

In response to Celia’s command, Death Knight slowly drew his sword and swung it towards Werther’s neck. With a dreadful sound of the wind, Werther Leo Bane’s head fell to the ground amidst splattering blood.

Simultaneously, Celia quickly retrieved the Demon Sword that Werther had been holding, as he had already expended much of the Sword’s power.

“This is yours, Master.”

Celia took the Demon Sword and headed towards the altar. Two Holy Knights who had been guarding the entrance to the dungeon followed her.

My smartphone’s alarm went off. As soon as I heard the notification sound, I checked its contents.

“Oh.”

A monster acquired so suddenly, and it was even a 4-star grade. I wondered who this creature was and decided to check it out.

Dullahan was a monster commonly known for not having a head. So, the monster I acquired seemed no different from a Dullahan.

“Well, a 4-star monster isn’t bad, though.”

I hadn’t spent any gems to obtain it, after all.

But the smartphone alarm had more to offer:

However, there was another issue.
